Nothing says "Happy Holidays" like decadence and glamour! We'll be seeing a lot of that on Madison Avenue this holiday season as Baz Luhrmann, famed director of The Great Gatsby and Moulin Rouge, partners with Barneys New York to design their holiday windows.
Luhrmann is known for incorporating dazzling visual extravagance in his films.
With the help of his wife, the costume designer Catherine Martin, Luhrmann will create a magical wonderland full of "fantastical characters, woodland creatures, ice skaters, snow owls, and candy canes." Not only will we be seeing Luhrmann's creations in the window of Barneys, but the Manhattan-based department store has announced that it will be carrying a line of holiday gifts, such as ornaments, toys, and accessories, that are inspired by the Baz Dazzled theme. The artwork will also be seen on Barneys shopping bags and in-door displays starting this November.
This isn't the first time Barneys is introducing an exciting collaboration for their holiday windows. In past years, they have worked with Jay-Z, Disney, and Lady Gaga. But, there's something special about Luhrmann's eye for color and design that makes waiting for the holidays seem nearly IMPOSSIBLE! After all, the theme of the collection is based on his motto: "A life lived in fear is a life half lived."
