But seriously, I have an amazing summer ahead of me, and I can't wait to share it with you! It's been an amazing ride, and I'm so excited for the next four years of my life!
It's official: I'm a high school graduate! Last Wednesday, I graduated high school after four long (and stressful) years! But, I wouldn't be where I am today without the friends, teachers, and knowledge my school provided me with! We have a dress code at my graduation, and girls are required to wear white or light colored dresses under our graduation gowns, so shopping for the perfect dress was not easy! White is such a difficult color to find, and I was not settling for a frilly lace dress. After a lot of soul-searching, I decided to wear a dress by Cluny NYC, and I purchased the dress at Neiman Marcus. Cluny is a relatively new designer brand (launched in 2011), but it has already made a name for itself in the fashion world. It is known for it's feminine yet edgy clothing. I fell in love with this gorgeous white dress, and I knew it was perfect for graduation!
My shoes are (obviously) by Tory Burch! They are the Savannah Snakeskin Wedge Sandal (originally $285.00, on sale $199.50). These shoes were perfect for graduation because the heel is only 45mm. I didn't want to wear three or four inch heels to a graduation ceremony, but I also didn't want to lose the amazing posture that heels help me achieve, so this was the perfect compromise! As for my accessories, I am wearing vintage pearl and diamond earrings and five Tiffany & Co. pearl bracelets.
I'm totally a hat person, but even I can't justify wearing these graduation caps. Traditions aside, do these really add anything to the graduation process? I think not. And to make matters worse, at my school, we aren't even allowed to decorate our caps! I'm not one to surrender to the unfashionable ways of conformists, but I really didn't have much of a choice in this situation. So, like all the other graduates, I donned a cap and gown.
My mother helped me get my outfit together. At my school, we have different cords and medals for different achievements. The gold cord signifies being a member of the National Honors Society, the gold and red cords signify being a member of the Spanish Honors Society, and the pink cords signify being a member of the Tri-M Music Honors Society. The medal is for achieving a 4.0 or higher GPA, and the pin on the medal is for participating in choir for 7 years.
After taking some pictures with my mother and my brother, we headed over to my friend's house so we could take more pre-graduation photos!
And of course, no celebration is complete without some Baked by Melissa!
Next, we headed over to the school for the graduation ceremony! It was supposed to rain, so the school decided to hold the ceremony inside (even though it didn't rain until much later!!) We suffered through an unbearable hour and a half sitting in a hot gym with hundreds of people and no air condition. My school's Chamber Choir performs a song at graduation every year. This year we performed "100 Years" by Five For Fighting.
And then, the ceremony began!
And then, it ended! I received my diploma and was finally free from the chains of high school! Now, or at least for the next two months, I can focus on dedicating more time to blogging, working, Gossip Girl, and eating nutella!
But seriously, I have an amazing summer ahead of me, and I can't wait to share it with you! It's been an amazing ride, and I'm so excited for the next four years of my life!
Last night, I went out with my family for a special dinner to celebrate my graduation from high school and my decision to attend Cornell University next year. We went to The Chart House, right on the Hudson River. We got the best table in the restaurant and had an amazing view of Manhattan.
My dress is the Stripe Denim Fit and Flare dress by Aqua ($88.00). My shoes are the Steve Madden Manngo Wedge in Navy. These shoes are from last spring, but they are still super cute! As for navy wedges, I love the Tory Burch Penny Wedge ($295.00) and the Kate Spade Tobey Wedge ($198.00). It was a little chilly on the water, so I brought with me my BP V-Neck Three-Quarter Sleeve Cardigan ($29.00) in Cream. I also received a beautiful graduation gift from my brother. He picked out this gorgeous Furla swing bag just for me. Furla Candy is my favorite handbag collection, so this bag was the perfect gift!
Here's a picture of me, my brother, and my mother. Check out the amazing view of Manhattan behind us!
For an appetizer, we ordered shrimp cocktails!
And for my main course, I ordered lobster tail with vegetable orzo. The meal was delicious!
I had such a lovely dinner with my family at this beautiful restaurant!
My favorite place to spend Saturdays is at the mall. Today I went out for lunch with my friend, Cassie, and did some summer shopping. My #1 rule for shopping is to dress comfortably but fabulously, so I wore this cute outfit:
So, what am I wearing? My top is the Frenchi Woven Swing Tank ($28.00) in Ivory. I own this tank in almost every color, and I can't live without it. It's the perfect basic tank and it looks great paired with shorts, jeans, and skirts! My shorts are actually from Hollister. I have a small waist and long legs, so it's hard to find shorts that fit me at the stores I normally shop at, but Hollister's shorts are surprisingly comfortable and great quality! On my feet, I am wearing the Tory Burch Printed Flip Flop ($50.00). The pattern I am wearing, Tan-Vintage Floral, is not sold online in this style, however it is sold online in the Carlton Flip Flop ($85.00). My bracelet is also from Tory Burch! It is the Double Wrap Logo Stud Bracelet (originally $95.00, on sale $66.50) in Ivory and Brass. This bracelet is a signature Tory Burch product, and it is a perfect addition to my outfit. My watch is from Nordstrom. It is the Titanium Crystal Accent Chronograph Bracelet Watch, 38mm ($20.00) in Gold. My necklace was a gift from a friend, and it is a Teardrop Echo Gems Necklace ($13.00) in Ivory. My sunglasses are from Tory Burch and my bag is from Furla.
Yay!!! I've been waiting so long to write this post and now I finally can! Last night was prom, and it was so much fun! I loved being with my friends and dancing the night away. But more than anything, I loved getting all dressed up!
Choosing a dress was super difficult because I am so picky when it comes to formal wear. I wanted something classy and timeless, something that when I looked back at my prom pictures in 20 years I wouldn't say "Oh my god what was I thinking?!" I ended up choosing this gorgeous black Milly gown. Milly has always been one of my favorite labels, and I think Michelle Smith (head designer) is so incredibly talented! I love Milly because it competes with other couture labels like Rebecca Minkoff and Nanette Lepore, but it is so fun and youthful! This gorgeous gown is a racerback with a black skirt and lace overlay. The lace has silver details that are subtle and add sparkle to the skirt! This dress was the perfect combination of classy and fun. Here is an up-close view of the intricate detail of the skirt:
This dress was so perfect! It was so my style, and I know when I show my kids pictures from my prom in the future, I will not regret the dress I chose! But what's a perfect dress without the right accessories? My dress looked fabulous with my new black Christian Louboutin pumps.
My bloody bottoms made red the perfect accent color! As for jewelry, I wore gorgeous pearl and diamond encrusted earrings that were a gift from my grandparents, and I wore a jeweled silver bangle, which I borrowed from my mother. I also borrowed a black jewel studded clutch from my mother.
For my hair, I went with a simple, effortless blowout. I'm not a fan of crazy curly hair, and I (once again) wanted to keep my look timeless. I am so happy with how my hair came out! I also love my makeup. I had my makeup artist do a black and silver smoky eye for a really dramatic look!
Prom was a dream come true, and I loved spending it with my amazing friends. I went to prom with my friend, Matt (notice how we used red as an accent color):
Here are some pictures of me and my (GORGEOUS) friends at prom pictures!
We obviously had to arrive to prom in style, so we rented a white Hummer limo.
Prom was PERFECT! I had such an amazing night with my friends and I loved wearing my dress! I hope your prom was as magical as mine!
Time for a few shout outs:
Thank you to my amazing mother, stylist, and best friend. Without you, this night would not have been possible. Thank you for doing everything from driving me to dress fittings, helping me choose a dress, searching everywhere for the perfect shoes, spending countless hours in the salon, and always being my #1 cheerleader. I love you so much!
And to the men behind the camera, thank you to my amazing brother and my awesome father! Thank you guys for taking these incredible pictures and for always being there for me! I love you both so much! And a special early Father's Day shoutout to my dad. You are the greatest dad in the world, and I am so thankful to have you in my life!!!!
So, it's finally warm enough to wear skirts!! This Sunday, I celebrated Mother's Day with my family in Philadelphia. It was such a beautiful, sunny day; perfect for a cute outfit! I wore a red, white, and navy (so patriotic!) striped skirt (similar here), a button-down white collared tank (similar here), and a navy cardigan, all from Nordstrom. My navy wedges are from Steve Madden (similar here).
I celebrated with my amazing mother and my whole family. We had a delicious meal and had a great time catching up!
Here is a picture of me and my brother with our cousin, Caitlin. I love Caitlin's maxi dress; it is so trendy!!
I had such a wonderful day with my family. Hope your Mother's Day was fabulous and stylish!
Hooray for the shift dress! Probably one of the greatest inventions in fashion history, shift dresses are perfect for those not-casual-not-formal occasions; for example: a confirmation luncheon!
My friend Ellie (who works at Nordstrom with me!) celebrated her confirmation today by having a lovely lunch party with all of her closest friends. She looking stunning in her cream and gold dress!
I wore this cute shift dress, truthfully, because I didn't know what else to wear. I've never been to a confirmation before, so I figured I'd find a happy medium between Sunday Brunch and Bar Mitzvah Guest attire. I think I was pretty successful in my endeavor. My dress is from Free People, my shoes are from Steve Madden, my swing bag is from Coach, and my pearl accessories are from my personal collection.
I am so in love with my OOTD!
I've been dressing so preppy lately. This outfit is very Tory Burch-inspired (patterned pants, button down shirt, pearls, etc.).
What I like about this outfit is that it's very versatile. I wore it to school, but it could be worn to the mall, a meeting, work, basically anywhere! If you look two posts down, I am wearing the same button down with a leather skirt. A white button down is a MUST-HAVE because you can wear it in so many different ways!
I am wearing my new Furla candy bag, which I blogged about in my Rome Day 4 post. This bag is great because it's waterproof and it's the perfect size. I picked the pink color because it was one of the darker shades, and the light shades were a little too see-through (plus, pink is my favorite color!).
On my feet, I am wearing my classic Tory Burch Patent Reva Ballet Flat in black ($225.00). Along with a white button down, Reva flats are a wardrobe staple for preppy girls! I will say, they aren't the comfiest shoes I've ever worn. But, they look great on, so I definitely recommend them!
The pants I am wearing are from Topshop, however they are no longer sold. These Topshop Satin Trousers ($90.00) are really similar in cut. My biggest advice when shopping for trousers is to ALWAYS TRY THEM ON BEFORE YOU BUY!!!! Trousers are sometimes cut badly. If you don't buy the right cut, they can make your hips and thighs look really big. But, if you buy them correctly, they can be super trendy and fun!
The weirdest thing about April is the weather. It's not hot but it's not cold, and on the East Coast, you never know what kind of day it will be when you wake up. April is that awkward time when you have to text your friends before school to see if it's okay to wear a skirt or if it's better to wear jeans. Today, I dealt with this weird-weather phase in style.
Capris are perfect for this kind of weather! They really aren't very different from pants, but because they are two inches shorter, they have such a warm appearance! I love this salmon pink color because it's subtle but fun, and it looks great with my pale complexion. I am wearing a lightweight navy blazer with a white long sleeve shirt underneath. I like this blazer because it is the perfect coat for a not-warm-not-cold April day. I added to this outfit gold ballet flats, a preppy headband (see post below for more), and a light purple statement necklace.
GET THE LOOK:
These Fire Destroyed Pastel Denim Skinny Jeans ($44.00) are very similar to the capris I am wearing. I like the unique look of destroyed colored pants, and Fire jeans are always so comfortable! Finding a simple white long sleeve is easy, but I particularly like this Baby Rib 3/4 Sleeve Boat Neck ($21.00) top from American Apparel.
This MICHAEL Michael Kors Ruched Sleeve Boyfriend Jacket ($93.50) makes a great navy blazer! It is also lightweight, like the one I'm wearing, but it is a little longer in length. Add this Stephan & Co. Statement Necklace ($24.00) to complete the look!
It's not quite warm enough to wear shorts, so until then, stick with capris and you'll always look fabulous!
Okay it's been spring for like 6 days already... why is it still freezing cold?! Due to the horrible cold (and windy) weather today, I had to compromise by wearing a skirt with tights instead of a skirt with high-socks as I had planned, but my outfit was still super preppy and cute:
I've been so obsessed with the preppy look lately! It's so polished and classy. Today, I wore a plain white button-down. This top is really simple, so it's easy to wear with a lot of different pieces and it's definitely a must-have for your wardrobe. The top I'm wearing (from Nordstrom) is no longer sold, but I really like this Three-Quarter Sleeve Stretch Perfect Shirt (originally $64.00, on sale $54.00) from J.Crew. The quality of this shirt is amazing, it doesn't wrinkle easily, and it can be paired with anything from sweaters to skirts and even with shorts!
Okay, so I know I bought this leather skirt like FOREVER ago (well, over Winter Break, but that's a really long time in the fashion world) and I know I've already posted it at least twice, but I'm still obsessed with this Whit Leather Skirt ($498.00) . Just because it's old doesn't mean it's old news! Leather skirts aren't just a winter look, they can be worn during spring and summer too! (Just a tip for wearing black leather in the summer: make sure to pair it with SUPER SUPER bright colors like lime green, neon pink, and orange because wearing black leather with darker or toned down colors is so wintery. The bright pop of colors makes wearing leather not seem so "heavy.") For some reason, this skirt didn't photograph very well today, but it looked so cute with my white button-down top!
I just purchased this Style & Co. 2 for 1 Colorblock Belt Set ($21.98) yesterday, and I was so excited to wear my new fuchsia belt today. It looks like red in this picture, but in reality, it is bright pink! I'm in love with it. This belt added the perfect pop of color to an otherwise simple outfit. This belt set comes in fuchsia/silver and black/white (I bought both because I couldn't resist!)
I love my French Sole Season Flats ($130.00). First of all, they are so comfortable, I could literally walk around Manhattan for an entire day and my feet would not hurt one bit. Second, they go with EVERYTHING (literally EVERYTHING). I love wearing them with skirts, but they also look fabulous with a simple pair of pants, and they can be worn during every season (although I don't suggest wearing them if there is snow on the ground because your feet might get cold!). I can't stop recommending these shoes; they are the perfect ballet flat because they are comfortable, flexible, and long lasting!
To tie the outfit together, I am wearing a pearl necklace and pearl bracelets from my personal collection. Because what's an outfit with some pearls?!
I'm hoping it gets warm soon because I'm really tired of dressing for the winter!
It's almost my 18th birthday! To celebrate, I went out to dinner tonight with all of my best friends. We went to my favorite Asian restaurant and had a delicious meal! And, I wore one of my favorite outfits:
I love this outfit so much because I borrowed two pieces from my mom's wardrobe! The belt I'm wearing is fromNordstrom. Here is a closer look:
This belt is no longer sold. But, this Hinge Embroidered & Beaded Belt ($34.00) is really similar!
I am wearing this Caslon Long Sleeve Fine Ribbed Crewneck Tee (originally $25.00, on sale $14.90). This is a great long sleeve shirt because it comes in a lot of different colors and it is very comfortable. It looks great with jeans and pants or tucked into a skirt!
I also borrowed the black sweater from my mom's closet! The sweater is also from Nordstrom, however it's no longer sold. This Rifle cardigan (left) (originally $114.00, on sale $65.00) and this Maison Martin Margiela 1 Cardigan (right) (originally $830.00, on sale $265.00) are very similar to the cardigan I was wearing!
I am wearing these Late Night Indigo Jeggings from American Eagle (originally $44.95, on sale $34.95). I love American Eagle jeans because they are comfortable, which isn't so easy to find! They are soft, stretchy, and they fit me really well.
On my feet I am wearing my favorite Vince Camuto Volero Boots (originally $197.95, now $98.96).
I had so much fun at my birthday party in my trendy outfit!
So, I didn't get to go to Fashion Week this year, but I couldn't put a great outfit to waste! Here is my MBFW 2014 look:
I love this outfit, but it would not have been possible without a little help from my friends. I borrowed this gorgeous jacket from my friend Laura and I borrowed the shoes from my friend Shayna!
I am a huge fan of statement jackets. I love wearing a really awesome jacket with a basic tank and skirt. TheNordstrom Junior's Department has a GREAT selection of statement jackets, and I really love this Cecico Faux Leather Sleeve Bouclé Bomber Jacket ($68.00). It's really similar to the one I'm wearing in this outfit!
I am wearing my Frenchi Woven Swing Tank ($28.00) in white. I am in LOVE with this tank! It is a perfect basic top, and it comes in so many colors (I own five of them!). It's a great light weight tank, but, it wrinkles easily, so make sure to hang it up nicely!
I posted this skirt a while ago, but I am still in love with it! This gorgeous Whit Leather Skirt, from Neiman Marcus, is $498.00. It's timeless, classy, and great for any season!
Patterned tights are always my go-to accessory! I like buying basic skirts and dresses, so these tights always jazz up my outfit! I have found that Urban Outfitters has the best selection of patterned tights. These Zigzag Openwork Tights are only $14.00!
The lace-up booties I am wearing are from Steve Madden, but unfortunately they are no longer available! But, these Clarks Rosepoint Dew Booties ($139.95) are really similar! I love lace-up booties, and suede is the perfect material for a cute winter shoe!
I may have not gotten to go to Fashion Week this year, but I couldn't help but share this trendy outfit with you!
About a month ago, I wrote a post on how to wear maxi skirts in the winter, and today I put this style to the test!
As I said, I love maxi skirts no matter what season it is! They are especially great in the winter because they keep your legs EXTRA warm! This outfit consists of pieces from Nordstrom and Brandy Melville.
I am wearing the Giselle Top from Brandy Melville in the black and white stripped pattern. This top (left) is no longer sold in the stripped pattern, however the Roxlind Top (right) is VERY similar!
I just love my maxi skirt in this outfit. I bought it from Topshop over the summer. It's black chiffon and has built in shorts under it, which is such a great feature! Plus, it has two slits on each side. While this skirt, is no longer available, you can buy a really similar skirt at Forever 21 for under $20! Both of these skirts are gorgeous. The one on the left is lined with a skirt, while the one on the right includes shorts. The skirts are really similar otherwise, and they make a great maxi skirt for summer or winter!
If you are looking for a fancier skirt, I am OBSESSED with this Alice + Olivia Caitlin Fringe Maxi Skirt ($297.00). It is so elegant, really well made, and perfect for fancy occasions!
I topped my outfit off with a simple faux leather biker jacket, just like this Jou Jou Ruched Faux Leather Jacket($58.00). I love leather jackets; they add an edgy feel to every outfit!
I am wearing my Steve Madden Troopa Boots in Black ($99.95)
I love the preppy style. I think it's polished and perfect for any occasion. But sometimes, I like to mix things up with my wardrobe, and I love taking preppy pieces and giving them a different look. Today, I went with an edgy twist on a preppy classic: a leather-trimmed tweed jacket!
I'm obsessed with this AE Collarless Zippered Jacket, surprisingly from American Eagle (originally $79.95, now on sale $39.95). It's so comfortable and it crops at the perfect length. It is difficult to tell from the picture, but the jacket is cream colored with blue and sparkly detailing! The best part of this jacket is the faux-leather trim! It gives it that edgy look I was going for!
This Lily White Skater Skirt ($28.00) is a staple in my wardrobe. Every girl should own at least one skater skirt, and what color is better than classic black? This skirt is flowy, soft, and the perfect length (it's not too short and not too long!) Of all my skater skirts, I like this one the best because it fits just right!
If you're looking for a basic long sleeve shirt, this Caslon Long Sleeve Fine Ribbed Crewneck Tee is absolutely perfect! It's only $25.00 and comes in every color imaginable! This is a great, basic shirt that can be worn all year long, and the quality is great!
I am also wearing my Tory Burch Sunglasses, black high socks from Macy's, and my Vince Camuto 'Volero' boots.
Taking totally separate styles and mixing them together into one look is a great way to create a fashionable outfit!
I do not like the rain. It's cold and makes my hair frizzy. I always have trouble coordinating outfits for rainy days because they're so depressing and gloomy, but I find the best way to combat a rainy day is with color!
I am wearing the Mariana Knit Sweater ($59.00) from Brandy Melville in grey. It's so soft and comfortable, which is great for a rainy day like today. My bright pink jeans are from Nordstrom, but unfortunately they are no longer being sold! I found a similar pair from Bloomingdales, and they are the Verdugo Ultra Skinny Jeans by Paige Denim (originally $179.00, on sale for $89.50)
These are great statement jeans, and I just love this purple-pink shade! The best part is that they are skinny jeans, so they will easily tuck into your winter riding boots! I'm wearing my Vince Camuto riding boots ($132.62). I accessorized with pearl earrings, three pearl bracelets, and two pearl necklaces (all from my personal collection). And, I avoided frizzy locks by putting my hair back into a french fishtail braid!
All it takes is a little creativity to overcome unfavorable weather and put together a fabulous outfit!
Today, it hit 70ºF. It's December 22nd. This is weird, right? But, I'm not complaining, I LOVE warm weather! Today I got to pull out some of my clothes from this summer and wear them to a family Chanukah party.
Most of my outfit is actually from Brandy Melville.
Since I bought my skirt in the summer, it's no longer sold at Brandy. But, for reference, it's called the Sylvia skirt, and it is seen above in pink (I also own the pink one; I love it!) The most similar skirt currently sold at Brandy is the Heather Skirt ($22), shown below.
The next piece of my outfit is my top. I wore the classic Giselle Top from Brandy ($16). I own 10 of these (1 in every color, and 2 in white.) They are comfy, cheap, and look great with everything. I wear them with skirts, leggings, pants, and under vests, sweaters, and jackets.
My necklace is a gold chain with a hamsa, also from Brandy Melivlle, however it is no longer sold there. I purchased my high socks from Bloomingdales, and they are basic black knee-high socks.
My jacket is also no longer sold, however I bought it at Nordstrom, and the one shown above is very similar. This 'Vermont' Distressed Denim Jacket by Paige Denim is $218. I love light denim because it can be worn during any season! And the distressed look on this jacket is totally chic.
I got lots of great new clothes at my Chanukah party today, and I can't wait to share them all with you soon!
Way back in August, my parents bought tickets to Pippin, the Broadway musical, for my brother's birthday. Today, we finally got to see the show! Normally, I'm skeptical about going into the city during December, but today could not have been a more beautiful first day of winter! It was 63ºF and sunny in Manhattan, so I was able to wear this adorable outfit:
What am I wearing? My scarf was a gift from a friend through Secret Santa! It's from a local store called Flair, and I'm absolutely in love with it! It's so comfortable and chic.
My black long-sleeve shirt is from Nordstrom. It's by Halogen, and it's only $39.00. It's super comfortable and it fits me really well!
My leather skirt, from Neiman Marcus, is by Whit. This skirt is $498.00, and I love it because it's shiny, comfy, and well-tailored.
My boots, by Vince Camuto, were featured in one of my previous posts. Sold at Nordstrom, these boots are $132.62 (weird price, right?) They're great, and my feet didn't even hurt while walking around the city today!
The final piece of my outfit is my new sunglasses! I featured these in an earlier post, as well. I found these sunglasses at Macy's for $165, and they are the greatest!
I really enjoyed my wonderful first day of winter in the city with my lovely family and my lovely outfit!
