I've been getting a lot of requests for a makeup tutorial, but I've been so busy the past few weeks! Finally, I was blessed with a snow day today, so I had time to put together a makeup tutorial for what I wear on a daily basis! So here it is: an everyday natural makeup look!
Next, I put on foundation! I use this great product, Credentials Suncare Essentials Skin Perfecting Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 ($29.00), for my foundation. It's very lightweight and creamy, so it doesn't look like you're wearing a ton of makeup. Plus, it has SPF in it! I use it in the Light color, and it also comes in Medium and Dark.
I spread a pea-size amount of this foundation on my face and my neck. It creates a nice, glowing look. Next, I use COVERGIRL Ultimate Finish Liquid Powder Makeup ($6.00 to $8.00, depending where you purchase it) as a spot cover up. This is great for covering redness, dark spots, and zits, and for priming your lips! I use it in the ivory shade.
Then, I move on to bronzer. I'm really pale, so bronzer is an important part of my makeup routine because it gives me a little more color. I love this MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural Powder in Light Plus ($30.00). While it is a powder, it doesn't sit too heavily on my face, which is important when finding a bronzer.
I use this e.l.f. Complexion Brush ($3.00) to apply my bronzer.
Next is blush! I am in love with this Blush Subtil by Lancôme in Miel Glacé ($30.00). It is a really nice matte blush.
To apply blush, I use this e.l.f. Blush Brush ($3.00). It's easy to apply blush if you make a fish face (see below). Apply it just above where your cheeks indent for the best results!
Now, your face makeup is complete! Time to move on to the eyes.
I begin by priming my eyes with MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Soft Ochre ($20.00). By priming my eyes, the eye shadow and eye liner lasts longer!
The next step is eyeshadow! I'm obsessed with this Color Design Pallate from Lancôme in Taupe Craze ($50.00). It has 5 great colors in it, and while I'm only using two today for my everyday look, I use the other colors for my nighttime look!
I start by using the All-Over Base, Shimmer Soft Peach. I put this on my eyelids and all the way up to my eyebrows. To apply my eyeshadow, I use thise.l.f. Eyeshadow "C" Brush ($3.00)
Next, I add a little color and a pop of dimension by applying the Lid Color, Shimmer Soft Taupe, in the creases of my eyelids. This is something that often seems complicated, but is really simple. First, find a good crease brush. I am not sure where I bought the one I use, because I've had it for so long, but e.l.f. sells a very similar one. Just put the color you want to use on the very tip of the brush, as shown, and follow the natural crease line made by your eyelids.
In the end, your creases should be a little darker. This is a great, simple look that brings attention to your eyes but isn't too showy for everyday wear.
Now, I move on to eyeliner. I have tried crayons, pencils, and gels, and gel liner has always worked best for me! I like it because it doesn't rub off as easy as crayon liner, and it is much easier to apply gel than it is to apply pencil. But, that is just my personal preference. I use MAC Fluidline in the shade Blacktrack ($16.00), To apply my liner, I use the 210 Precise Eye Liner Brush by MAC ($20.00). It's really thin, which is great for me because I don't like to wear very thick eyeliner.
The trick to applying eyeliner is to be very steady. I always lean on my counter so my hands don't shake, and I get close to my mirror so I can clearly see what I am doing. I start at the inside corner of my eye and work outward in small strokes. I only line the top of my eye because I don't like to wear too much makeup, but I know many people line the bottoms of their eyes as well, and this is also a great look!
Now, I apply mascara! I have gone through so many different brands and types of mascara, but I have found that COVERGIRL LashBlast Volume Waterproof Mascara (about $6.00) works best for me! I love the brush, the color, and the texture!
The final step of my makeup routine is my lips! I primed them earlier with the COVERGIRL Ultimate Finish. Now, I apply lipstick. I love lipstick, and I have so many different colors, but today I am going to use Lipglass by Painted Earth in the shade Twilight ($19.75). This lipstick is great because it's a natural color and it's shiny!
Finally, I apply my lipgloss, Gloss In Love by Lancôme in Peach Show($27.00). I love this lipgloss because it's not too sticky, which normally drives me crazy! Plus, the brush is really cool! It's perfectly indented to fit right on your lip!
And there you have it! An easy, everyday makeup look!
This summer, I developed an obsession for maxi skirts. I wore them all the time everywhere I went, and when autumn came I became quiet emotional as I packed away my skirts until the spring. Then, I realized, just because summer is over doesn't mean I have to put away my beloved maxi skirts! I can transform them into fabulous winter outfits too!
It's important to make sure you wear winter-colored maxi skirts. These colors include black, grey, dark green, brown, maroon, navy, and deep purple. While bright pinks, oranges, and yellows might make great summer skirts, they aren't always the best option when it comes to winter style. But, if you find an unconventional color that you think works, take the risk and go for it!
One of my favorite ways to wear maxi skirts in the winter is by adding a nice scarf and a long sleeve shirt. This is a nice, casual style that still has a bohemian vibe. A knitted infinity scarf with adds the perfect wintery feel to your summery skirt, and it will keep you warm in the cold weather!
Another look I love is pairing a maxi skirt with a trendy winter jacket. I especially love this first look, because the patterned maxi skirt is so cool, and the style of the leather jacket is really unique!
Finally, wear a maxi skirt with a chunky sweater on top for a cozy and comfy look!
I'll conclude this post with a great quote I saw on Under A Veil while doing some fashion research:
'' In the depth of winter I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer. '' -- Albert Camus
